Skilled CNC Machinists
Initially 6 months contract
Job Purpose:
Manufacturing precision components compliant with drawing requirements including tolerances and specifications, carrying out self-verification of technical compliance with appropriate measuring equipment and techniques
Main Tasks & Responsibilities:
Involved in the manufacture of components and sub-assemblies for the aerospace industry, including the flap actuation systems for the Airbus range of Aircraft, the successful candidates will be required to set and operate complex mill turn and splining machines.
Some main duties include:
- Establish job requirements from drawings, production cards or job instruction sheets.
- Select and load tools to machine (for CNC machine measure or pre-measure tools).
- Set tools and cutters on conventional machine, or set tool compensations on CNC machine.
- Monitor established feeds and speeds and take appropriate action where necessary.
- Maintain established time for job throughout batch.
- Deburr components at the machine where cycle times permit.
- Complete inspection of part in line with Engineering drawing.
- Remove swarf, top up coolant and hydraulic oils, keep machine clean and tidy.
- Ensure production and non-running times are recorded via the Data Collection System.
Essential skills:
- NVQ L3 or equivalent (including a time served apprenticeship) in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant area
- 5 years working experience in an engineering/manufacturing environment
- Run and Understand CMM reports to aid fault finding and correction.
- Knowledge and work experience of Siemens controlled CNC machines Applicants should meet the above criteria, be proactive in their work and have a good quality record. Working knowledge and operation of splining machines, fault finding and correction would be advantageous to your application.

The NDT Technician will be required to ensure that appropriate systems and checks are in place to ensure components, sub-assemblies and other manufactured or processed items comply with customer requirements.
NDT (Non Destructive Testing) is a key element of the role and work experience in NDT techniques and a Level 2 MFD/PFD is a requirement.
Some key duties / responsibilities include:
- Establish inspection or test requirements from production card/quality plan or Quality Engineer for items manufactured/processed in house and sub-contractor/purchased items.
- For sub-contracted/purchased items, establish status and inspection requirements by reference to Approved Suppliers list.
- Verify when appropriate items comply with customers’ requirements by reference to appropriate documentation and use of appropriate measuring/test equipment and visual techniques.
- To raise DAR, supplier rejection notes and CAR’s against non-conformances identified and ensure that all non-conformance with quality requirements are reported with the minimum of delay in order to reduce scrap/reject.
- Ensure incidents/discrepancies receive adequate corrective and preventative actions.
- Complete all relevant documentation, including First Article Inspection reports (when applicable) in accordance with procedures.
- To conduct product audits, process audits on any aspect of the manufacturing system.
- To indicate approval by means of his/her inspection stamp.
- To ensure that all inspection equipment is adequately identified, maintained and calibrated.
Essential skills:
NDT Level 2 MFD/PFD certificate. NVQ L3 or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline AND have 2 years work experience in a technical role OR 4 years work experience in a technical role.
Work experience to ISO9002 quality standard is essential, as well as having NDT inspection experience.

- To assist in programming CMM’s.
Essential skills and experience:
NVQ L3 or equivalent in relevant engineering discipline
AND
2years work experience in a QA Surveyor role in the last 5 years
OR
4 years’ experience in a QA Surveyor role in the last 10 years
The successful candidate will also have work experience in ISO9001 / AS9100 quality standard, having experience of the preparation of First Article Inspection reports. CMM knowledge and experience is essential.
